After much googling and reading the above posts i had almost resigned myself to a clean install of xp. I then found another post on a different tech forum which suggested that the problematic msls51.dll is contained within uxtheme.dll I ran firefox from command prompt and downloaded a new 'clean' version of uxtheme.dll and saved this to C/windows/system32 folder. I had this yesterday and to be honest by the time you have run through all the things like Housecall, hijackthis, etc etc you could have formated your HD and reinstalled in less time. I have no taskbar or start menu, I can get the task manager up and can therefore run some programs but I have no idea how to get my computer working normally again. I tried system restore which didn't work unsurprisingly, I ran MalwareBytes but since it wasn't the program that removed the .dll it's not much help. I don't know how to get this file back because I do not have the ComboFix log file, and am going to attempt to download the .dll from somewhere onto a usb key as a last resort before reinstall of XP.
